(Macau SAR, May 18, 2023)— This summer, five of Macau and Hong Kong’s well-known contemporary artists came together for a period of shared inspiration under the roof of Galaxy Macau Integrated Resort (hereinafter Galaxy Macau). Working with the theme of “Summer Love”, the five artists painted individual creations across a live format, as well as later conjoining their creativity on an extensive 50-meter mural—an amalgamation of 10-meter murals painted by each of the five artists. On the afternoon of May 18, at art space GalaxyArt in Galaxy Promenade, “Artists-in-Residence: Summer Love – Live Mural Painting and Exhibition” was officially launched.

Mr. Cheng Wai Tong, Deputy Director of Macao Government Tourism Office of the Macau SAR Government, Mr. Cheang Kai Meng, Vice President of Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macau SAR Government, Mr. Lok Hei, President of Macau Artist Society, Mr. Kevin Kelley, Chief Operating Officer – Macau of Galaxy Entertainment Group, and Mr. Raymond Yap, Senior Director of Integrated Resort Services of Galaxy Entertainment Group were in attendance to celebrate the exhibition’s opening. In addition to the individual murals created by each artist, the opening ceremony also unveiled the artists’ collaboration that featured a kaleidoscope of creative styles and techniques, as well as underscoring the deep cultural ties between Macau and Hong Kong.

Five talented artists from Macau and Hong Kong spent six weeks at GalaxyArt, delighting art lovers who were given a live window into their creative journey. Through each artist’s brushstrokes, summer themes of flowers, animals, the ocean and the starry sky were subtly transformed into a combination of lines, color blocks, graphics, and text as each artist presented his or her personal interpretation on the theme of “Summer Love.” As part of “Artists-in-Residence: Summer Love – Live Mural Painting and Exhibition,” the exhibition of the murals will run till June 30 and is free to the public. Hong Kong mural artist and illustrator Bao Ho sits in front of her mural “Love Across the Sea”. Using a surreal style that evokes a world of dreamy summer days, on the left she has portrayed Mazu, goddess of the sea. Widely worshipped in both Macau and Hong Kong, Mazu serves as a metaphor for the cultural exchange between the two cities. On the right, a horse riding the waves is a nod to the Chinese proverb “cars like running water, horses like swimming dragons”—a metaphor for the flourishing vitality and non-stop energy of the two cities.	Hong Kong artist and illustrator Kristopher Ho approaches summer from a different angle as he looks to highlight the culture and creativity shared by Macau and Hong Kong. His works “THE PROLOGUE” and “CONNECTION” are exercises in contrast between various tropical animals and the floral emblems of the two cities.
Macau graffiti artist MCZ sits in front of his work “Heart of Love.” Using abstract mediums, his paintings depict dreamlike states that reflect the artist’s feelings associated with “the sky, sea, and warmth of summer.”	Macau graffiti artist PIBG in front of his work “Some Blue” and “Oxygen”. A girl is surround by stars and the Milky Way; flowers transform into musical notes allowing viewers to experience the sounds of a warm summer night as if there in person.
Hong Kong mural artist and calligrapher Samantha Cheung’s three murals, “The Story”, are to be read as if a story book. In flowing Western calligraphic script, she tells a lovers’ tale of summer. Her work cleverly incorporates the floral emblems of Macau and Hong Kong amid a story about summer love.	The opening ceremony also unveiled the five Macau and Hong Kong’s artists collaboration that featured a kaleidoscope of creative styles and techniques, as well as underscoring the deep cultural ties between Macau and Hong Kong.
