Tom Yum Goong Mae Nam soup

The true taste of Thailand, a spicy bowl of Tom Yum Goong Mae Nam soup is one of the specialties at Banyan Tree Macau’s popular Saffron restaurant, recommended by Hong Kong Tatler’s Best Restaurants Guide. "Contemporary Thai cuisine pays attention to details," explains head chef Monnipa Rungthong. "From the ingredients used to the color combinations in the food, each dish is a work of art."

Tom Yum Goong Mae Nam soup

Prepared by Saffron’s Thai chefs, the Tom Yum Goong Mae Nam is a popular winter dish, its fragrant depths giving comfort in the colder months. All the ingredients in this Tom Yum Goong Mae Nam — from the fresh prawns to the lemongrass, lime, fish sauce, chili peppers and galangal — are directly imported from Thailand to create the truly authentic and distinctive hot and sour flavor. A paste called nam prik pao made of chilies, shallots and garlic roasted over an open charcoal fire, is prepared as a base for the soup, to which water, herbs and prawns are added.
